The holy city of Varanasi
is wonderful to visit at any time and in any season. The atmosphere is serene
with an aura of all pervasive ethereal spiritualism. Temples
in Varanasi beckon you to enter and worship here. For a visitor
like you, you’ll be amazed and awed by the number of historic, ornate and
quaint temples here—each one with its own history and architecture. So, it will
be more than worshipping at the temples here—it will also be a ride through
history for you.
A nice time to be here is Diwali.
Celebrating festival of Diwali in Varanasi is a lifetime experience. If ever
you are here at that time, do be sure to take the Dev
Dipawali Varanasi Tour. This elaborate ceremony is something everyone
looks forward to. Whether you participate in it or are a bystander, you will be
mesmerized by the scale of celebrations done here.
This annual ceremony involves an
offering of prayers to Lord Ganesha and lighting earthen lamps on the Ganga.
The ghats are beautifully lit up with these lights and this is a sight to
behold. So, don’t miss a trip to Varanasi at this time of the year.
There are said to be 23,000 temples
in Varanasi. Tourists choose the temples they would like to worship at and so
can you. Still, among them, the ones that you should visit are:
¨ Annapurna
Temple: Dedicated
to the Goddess of Food, Annapurna Mata, this temple is particularly busy on
Annacoot Festival when coins are distributed among devotees. Those who worship
with these coins are said to be blessed by the Goddess with prosperity.
¨ Shani
Dev Temple: This
unique temple is dedicated to Shani or Saturn, with the idol riding a bison. It
is said that he spares his devotees of any trials but for others, he could well
give them troubles for seven and a half years.
¨ Sakshi
Vinayaka Temple: The
reigning deity of this temple is Ganesh. Here, he takes the form of a witness
or sakshi who sees that all pilgrims to this temple perform their rituals
correctly. Pilgrims visit this temple so that all their good deeds are recorded
by Lord Ganesh.
